What Does it Take to be a REALtor?

Today's market is testing us all. Testing us in a way that is beyond normal boundaries. Today is the day that we decide who is Real and who is going. Going where? By the wayside. Either you're ready to place your license on the line or you're waffling like what's going on at the local Waffle house.

Real Estate is not part time and only the strong survive. You think you've spent too much time with Real Estate and it's time to spend family time or take a long hot shower? Think first....

What does it take to be a REALtor?

To be real:

You must: Make your own goals and stick with them. You only have yourself to answer to.

You must: Be responsible and astute and awake and ready. Did you get a lead? Did you follow up?

You must: Treat your customers as if they were family. Would you treat your mom that way?

You must: Remember your ethics. If it benefits you and no one else...it's wrong.

You must: Work when you're tired as I am now.

You must: Sit up in your chair and choose to make that call even though you have other things to do.

You must: Pretend you are dealing with yourself. What would you want in a sevice situation? Are you there?

You must: Get up in the morning even though the covers are saying, "stay, I will keep you comfortable."

You must: Be prepared for a "NO" and be ready to step forward.

You must: You must look to your future and plan ahead. Don't just live in the present. It will get better.

You must: Remember you are a Realtor. Your family will understand that this time is difficult and

You are doing it for them as well as you...and as well as your clients.

Get Real. Quit complaining. You're taking up time. Get busy. Do your job. Love your job. Love the people.

In the past two weeks I have listed a total of 1.2 million. Now I have to sell them. Get Real. Get busy.

Wipe That Egg Off My Face!

I had a very exciting line up of showings yesterday with a man that has cash and it seemed to be burning a hole in his pocket.

He was already telling me that he was more than likely going to make an offer on my listing. Yea Rah!

His concern was with the rural neighborhood in which this 13 acre property resides and the safety of the neighborhood.

I assured him that it was a safe and wonderful neighborhood and had not heard of any unusual incidences that he should concern himself with. I was telling the truth!

My strategy: Show the neighboring house first. It was lower dollar but was not nearly the phenomenal property my listing was. I just knew after seeing this smaller property my listing would be the obvious choice.

Egg, Egg.

We pulled up in front of the property. As I was getting out he mentioned that his wife was not really interested as it looked too small. We stood and visited for a few minutes. As we were beginning to go next door I asked one more time if he wanted to take a peek inside...

Egg, Egg, Egg.

He snapped and decided to take a quick look leaving his wife in the car.

Egg, Egg, Egg, Egg.

I opened the door and we entered. It was lovely. As we entered the bright and beautiful kitchen area I froze.

Looking at the cabinets all doors were wide open and miscellaneous things were scattered. I looked around more and low and behold the back window was shattered with a large white rock and the door stood open.

Egg, Egg, Egg, Egg, Egg.

THEY HAD BEEN ROBBED! (rotten Eggs) And, there went my testimony of safety right down the drain or at least out the broken window. I contacted the listing agent and gave her the bad news. Must I tell you that it didn't sit well with the buyer? Nope.

I just read JL Boneys' incident about having his GPS stolen and the news of the neighbors robbery.

What I think is happening here is that we're living in a "Gotta have it now" society. Parents are tightening their belts and denying little Johnny of his expensive toys so the kids are going out and shopping free! Batten down your hatches. Take nothing for granted and say a little prayer that the house is in tact before showing.

Geez. What a mess. As of today the owner called me. We now have a full alarm system he tells me. Call your people and get them back! Assure them it was nothing. Sure, no problem. LOL!
